Laos update

Back from Laos! And then going to Vietnam in 2 days, fast!

I think I'm horrible with updating, but I'll try to start from the beginning, and then just put in pictures.

So before classes started on June 7th, we went to the
Sunday Market (Walking Street) by TaiPei Gate.
This was more tourist souvenir shopping, but what was interesting was that at 6pm every time, the national anthem would come on through a speaker, and everyone would have to stand still.

My first day of class, we just ran through an introduction to geography, like the tropical environments of southeast asia...and then a really random prehistoric lecture on the homo erectus & homo sapien species...
but on the 3rd day of class, we went to Doi Suthep - some mountains nearby with a really big temple at the top, and a national park nearby.

This was my Ajan demonstrating a symbiotic relationship - the ants live inside the milkweed plant.

Candid photo of some classmates.

Me a
nd Champ, my new Thai friend who's going to be studying at Pitzer College in Claremont, CA this coming school year.

This is the Doi Suthep Temple. There were 306 steps up to the temple area! Inside the temple, I prayed, and visited a monk, who said a few prayers, blessed me, and then tied a bracelet around my arm for safety.

Can't have this blog without this picture O_O

DURIAN TREE!

The strangling figs of Thailand.

More on Doi Suthep, Northern Thailand & the ethnic minority villages we stayed at, and Laos coming soon... Thanks!
